Bill 9

June 21, 2019

Dear Mr Rehn

I am writing regarding Premier Kenney's limit to debate on Bill 9 and further, this business of passing out earplugs so his MLAs didn't have to listen to the opposition. We live in a democracy where all voices should be heard- not just those of the people who voted for your party.

Mr Kenney is on record as saying this was a light hearted gesture to improve morale. Your party just won the election by a significant majority. I don't think your morale needs a boost. Instead, this gesture was designed to belittle the opposition and mock dissenting voices. Is this the kind of governance we can expect from the UCP? The same sense of arrogance and entitlement that lost the PCs the election in 2015?

Please remember that your party was elected to govern ALL Albertans, including civil servants whose contracts should be respected. It was elected to listen to ALL Albertans, including those you disagree with.

Mr Kenney stated he was going to raise the level of discourse. He is doing just the opposite. I hope he will do better moving forward and I ask that you bring up this matter with him.
